Daily Photo #18 (Mar. 30)

Yesterdays photo is of a wooden figure I bought at an amazing store downtown called The Black Market. Lots of cool stuff in there. To me the figure represents three people embracing each other.

Did the usual lighting I have been doing lately. One octa-box. Figure on my dresser. Can you tell where the light is coming from?

Brightened it up a bit in PS and also upped the contrast a little bit. Pretty much it though.

Daily Photo #17 (Mar. 29)

Ok, before you get mad about not posting for the 28th hear me out. I went out in the snow storm we had and took a cool photo. Well at least it looked cool in my LCD screen. Waited until yesterday to upload it to the computer and it was out of focus :( So to make up for it I took this awesome one the day after the storm. God it was gorgeous out! I also went out and paid $20 for a wooden statue for todays photo. So keep an eye out for it and don't be mad, get glad! :D Hahaha.

Didn't really do much to this one. Burned the corners a bit, added contrast as usual and lightened up the middle of the photo a bit.

I'm now selling prints on www.christinephotog.deviantart.com . If you're interested check it out :D

Daily Photo #16 (Mar. 27)

Tried doing some more product shots today. Found they were pretty much like everyone else's. So I attempted something different. I'm not sure how much I like it in a advertisement context but I think it is as cute as a button for fun :D

Changed the white balance as the pink walls in my room were not helping the white paper. Upped the contrast a bit as usual but that was pretty much it.

Constructive criticism and comments welcome!

Daily Photo #15 (Mar. 26)

SORRY! Don't be mad. I didn't post one for Tuesday because I didn't take one :( Instead I did about 4 hours of editing that I'm trying to catch up on. So as a treat to myself I didn't do my daily photo (would induce more editing).

So to make up for it, yesterday after work I went out and bought an orchid. Making this the only daily photo so far that I have paid for.

I had no idea how to light them though. When I tried the light above my head it over exposed and blew out the photos way too much. Then my friend mentioned to try doing a silhouette with the flower. And this is what happened. I LOVE the results. Bringing it into PS all I had to do was up the contrast a bit to make the colors pop out.

This is definitely my favorite so far out of all the daily photos. Can't wait to get a macro lens and attempt this again :D

Daily Photo #14 (Mar. 24)

So I called in sick for work on Monday and didn't feel like going out for my daily photo. So this is a photo of the sunset from my window. Right underneath the photograph there are a bunch of homes which I didn't want in the photo. Hence why there is so much sky. Ha ha ha.

In PS I only upped the contrast a bit. Didn't feel like anything else really needed to be done to it.

Daily Photo #13 (Mar. 23)

Just like the evening before I decided to take a photo of the moon. I wanted to capture the light in the ocean with the moon so I had to drive out to the boonies. Snapped this shot and ran back into my car as it was freeeeeeeezing outside.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that the moon looks like a star. I want to take a close up of the moon where you can see the detail in it. Maybe next time?!

Daily Photo #12 (Mar. 22)

Was out driving around last night after two cups of tea trying to find my photo of the day. I started taking photos of the Olands Brewery sign which turned out really cool but didn't really want to use it. So I ended up driving over to Dartmouth and while taking some shots of Halifax the moon started to come out. So I did a long exposure shot on it which blurred the clouds that were in front of it.

I really like how it turned out. I brightened it up a bit and upped the contrast a little but thats it.

Daily Photo #11 (Mar.21)

I was roaming around downtown Halifax on Friday and decided to go visit my old university (Dalhousie). It was Good Friday so there were no classes, which in turn meant no people around. Snapped off a few photos of the management building. Rowe.. How I loved the Rowe. Most of my classes were there. Very new building at Dal. Only a few years old. Runs off of all the green principles. Amazing. Not to mention the architecture inside is phenomenal. <3

In this shot I was laying on the floor. I only really dropped the exposure in the Raw conversion to bring back as much detail as I could. Then I brightened it up again so you could actually see stuff. Upped the contrast as usual. He he he.

Daily Photo #10 (Mar.20)

I decided to venture back into a church that I had already taken photos in yesterday. I took a tripod with me this time and it helped a ton in getting this shot. Had to shoot it at around 1/4 second or something ridiculous like that. Upped the brightness a bit and the contrast and burned the edges.

Daily Photo #9 (Mar.19)

So I know already took a photo of one of my cats, but this is the other one. Her name is Kitty. She's a nice one. As you can tell because I got pretty close to her. Ha ha ha.

Used a tip that my friend Alexis told me on forcing the camera to focus on something. Thanks Alexis!! Did really do much editing to this. Upped the contrast a bit and burned out her nose a little bit but thats it.

Daily Photo #8 (Mar.18)

So I'm getting close to actually posting the photo on the day I took it. This is yesterdays shot. For some reason there was a lot of condensation on my windows in my room so I decided to draw a little heart and see if I could photograph it. Played around with the light balance a bit and upped the contrast a lot in this version of the photo but I like the end result.

Daily Photo #7 (Mar.17)

I'm posting lots today :D Ha ha ha. Had to catch up though.

This is actually what I got my dad for Christmas because he is always complaining that I never put gas in his car. Which I definitely do!! ;)

I had no idea what to photograph last night when I got home for work as I was too busy in the day with an interview to do a photo before work. Was sitting in my kitchen eating a PB, Nutella and banana sandwich (sounds gross but is soooo good) when I say this guy. I think this is adorable so decided to photograph it.

Forgot to put the tungsten setting on my camera for the first shot (that turned out to be the most in focus as low light and no tripod = camera shake) but because it is a raw file I just changed it in the conversion. I like how it turned out although I wish it had've been just a bit sharper. Next time I'll remember my tripod.

Had dreams of sunsets last night. Hope that is a good sign of the type of summer we're going to have :D Can't wait to get rid of this cold wind :(

Comments and constructive criticism as usual folks! :D

Daily Photo #6 (Mar.16)

So Sunday I was so stumped on what to photograph. I spent my whole day getting my website up and running (www.christinenewhook.com) that I didn't have any more creativity in me. So while taking a break from doing my site I start to paint my toe nails and got the bright idea to photograph them! Ha ha ha. Set up my light in my bathroom (which looked ridiculous because I have a tiny bathroom and an octabox that touched almost both walls), jumped in the tub in my bathing suit and took some photos of my toes in bubbles.

This is what turned out. I was originally going to crop it tighter but I think I like it with more dark objects in the picture. Adds some contrast and a realistic feel.

Like always, comments and constructive criticism welcome :D

Daily Photo #5 (Mar.15)

So I keep being lazy/busy and I'm having problems keeping on top of this. I swear though that the pictures are actually taken on the day they are supposed to be but it's just me taking my time to load them. I'll try to be faster! :)

Originally for Saturdays photo I want to get a shot of someone playing in the snow or trying to catch a snow flake on their tongue. Unfortunately, no one wanted to go out side in the storm we were getting. So instead I took some photos of my cranky cranky cat. Ha ha ha. She didn't like it very much but here is the shot that turned out in focus (low lighting in my room, didn't use tripod = camera shake).

Comments and constructive criticism invited :D

Daily Photo #4

So it's official... My camera bag is heavy as H***. Ha ha ha. Back hurts today. I have one of the ones that holds a laptop too. But because I went to work after taking this photo I had to take everything for work in it too. Sooo heavy. Argh. Oh well.

Went out for breakfast/brunch with a fellow local photographer friend of mine, Chris Geworsky (www.jumpkick.ca), and then we wandered around Halifax to take photos. Chris had not been to "The Pit" before so I decided to show him around. Now, The Pit, or whatever you want to call it, is a spot in Halifax where it is allowed to do graffiti. Therefore there is always LOTS of awesome work there. When we were there we actually ran into some fellow artists. Unfortunately they wouldn't let us take their picture so I got this cute one of Chris instead. Wanted to give it a bit of a cartoon ish feel because it really looks like it belongs on Roger Rabbit. He he he. Hope you all like it! I'll probably take some more graffiti shots within the next year because it changes so much there :D

Comments and constructive criticism welcome.

ps- I know selective color is overdone but deal with it. He he he. :D

Daily Photo #3

Ok so I am going to end up making 3 posts today because I didn't get the chance to post the Daily Photo on Thursday or Friday so I need to catch up on those two and then the one for today.

This is the photo for Thursday. I was on the bus and was amazed that I was the only person there!! Talk about a waste of gas! Oh well. Nothing else really exciting happened that day so this is it. Ha ha ha. Tried to make it interesting with the high contrast and the bit of de-saturation.

Daily Photo #2

So I am kind of keeping up to date on this Daily Photo thing. Didn't get a chance to post this last night so I'm posting it this morning instead :D

Looks like we got probably our last snow storm of the year last night. Didn't even really get much snow but it is better than the brown grass we had earlier on in the day. Decided to take some long exposure shots when I got off work at like 1am. Ha ha ha. Night hawk I know. The only thing I didn't like about every single one of them is the orangey/redish tint that they all had from the street lights. That has been happening with all of my night time shots. It's a royal pain in the BUTT! Argh. Oh well. I changed this one into B&W and added a blue tone to it. Also uped the contrast a lot and burned around the light posts so that they weren't so distracting.

Again, comments and constructive criticism are welcome and I hope to have some to read soon :D

Photo of the day project

So I was reading a photography magazine (as usual lol) and one of the tips it had for being a better photographer was to take a photo every day. That way you are keeping the dust off of your gear and you keep yourself challenged to find new things to photograph or to try new techniques. So I have decided to take on this challenge and see how long I can actually keep it up. The first one I took is off a biker in the skate park in Halifax. I like how it turned out. Not the usual type of shot for trick bikers but I think the sun setting makes it look cool. Feel free to post comments/constructive criticism. :D
