Daily Deviation

So I'm sitting here at my desk just working along when a friend of mine says "Christine!! Your photo is a Daily Deviation!!". Now for those of you that don't know what that means, it's just fan-freaking-tastic that's what it is. Seriously though, there is a website called Deviant Art for artists of different mediums to post their work. Last spring I decided to post some of my photography. Well I haven't really looked at it since then until today because one of my photos got a Daily Deviation. This means that Deviant Art as a website decided to feature one of my pieces for the day! How cool is that? I want to say thank you to everyone that has commented on the photo and fav'd it. It does mean a lot to me knowing that people enjoy my work :)

Keep the comments coming! Hahaha.

Happy almost New Year!

2008 to 2009

Looking back on 2008 has been interesting. There has been a lot of memories that I will keep for ever, I have met new friends and enjoyed many moments with old friends. But now comes the question, what do I want out of 2009. What do you want?

I have decided this year to make some New Year resolutions and make mini posters of them. I'm going to hang these in my bathroom and that way I have to look at them every day for the next year. I hope this will give me the little bit of extra motivation I have been looking for this year and push them to come true. I read a blog post not too long ago from someone I admire. They talked about how sometimes you have to run full ahead and chase your dream. Leave the securities of your life behind and take that chance. I hope to do that this year.

January 1st I am going to write about my resolutions and I invite all of you to make sure through out the year I am keeping my part. Bug me, comment on my posts. You are my friends and my friends help me keep on track.

:)

Here's to 2009!

Feature

As I am at work and can't post any of my Christmas photos I decided I would post a feature on one of my favorite photographers. As you can probably guess it is Jasmine Star. I have mentioned her work a few times before in my blog.

Jasmine has a unique style of wedding photography. She adds a bit of a fashion look to her images and they are absolutely stunning. I have learned a lot from reading her Blog. Jasmine is not only a phenomenal photographer, she is also an amazing writer and a huge contributor to the photographic community by posting FAQ's in her Blog, making help videos and posting articles with Pro Photo Resource.

Lets here it for Jasmine Star!!

Happy Saturday!

Snow flakes are falling on my head :)

I have hope! I have hope that we will have a white Christmas this year :) Lately we have been getting cold weather which equals snow but then it warms up again and the rain washes it away. Well yesterday it snowed solid for a few hours and today it is bright and sunny but the snow hasn't melted. So here is hoping for a white Christmas!

In honor of the welcomed snow I have decided to post some wintery jokes that have been sent to me.

Happy Thursday :)

Jaymie and Jordan

Here is a sneak peak of Jaymie and Jordan. I photographer them and their two dogs last weekend. Such a cute couple :) I do have to say that I wish I had the same amount of energy as their dogs. Non stop running I tell you. Crazy!!

I used Totally Rad Photoshop Actions to edit these photos and I just love the results :) I can't wait to purchase the whole package! I definitely recommend them to anyone that wants a bit of "umph" to their photos :)

Giving is Awesome

You know someone. You know someone who's experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can't afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family's spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography. Whether it's canvas or albums, prints for Grandma, or a slideshow to watch over and over, it's in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

The rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* The nominee must reside in Nova Scotia. Tell me who you know, what they're experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* You must e-mail me the full story : christine@christinenewhook.com.

IF you do not know someone to nominate please forward this information to friends, families and co-workers.

The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve -- get nominating! I can't wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season -- and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With love,

Christine Newhook

Christmas Spirit!

I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought that would be fun :) Ha ha ha. But it is true, I absolutely love Christmas. And it's not because I am greedy (ahem, I am not!), it's because I love giving presents to people and being friendly and in the holiday spirit.

So as a theme I have decided to post every day (I am going to do it... hahaha). Each day I am going to post about something Christmas-esque. Even if it is just giving kudos to photographers I like or talking about wrapping techniques.

Today I have decided to officially announce the launch of my website. It is going LIVE on Friday the 12th!! YaY!!! I designed this website using a program called ShowIt Sites. AMAZING!! The lovely people at ShowIt Fast developed this software. It basically creates a Flash website but the user doesn't have to know anything about Flash. I mean, I honestly think it was designed specifically for me ;) I have been struggling with getting a website up for over a year now because I know nothing about them. I tried writing HTML code myself... didn't work. I tried buying an awesome Flash template and editing it... talk about a disaster. I even paid someone I went to high school with to design a website in Flash for me... I felt bad about being picky about stuff. So right now I have this crappy template that I don't know how to edit posted on my domain.

Then in September I went to a Photography Seminar and got to meet David Jay. It was one of those situations when the clouds parted and the sun shined down on this one person. Ha ha ha. Ok, that is exagerating it a bit but you get the idea. David introduced me to so many topics and ideas that I was clueless about. I have never used Lightroom for editing before and now I love it! There are so many ways to market yourself that I would have never thought of on my own that he introduced me to. And he introduced me to my saviour, ShowIt Sites. You'll all have to wait and see on Friday what I designed :)

I will also sneak in that I'm planning to participate in Giving Is Awesome. Check it out :)

Santa

Had an awesome portrait session yesterday. Two friends I went to high school with have a 7 month old little girl named Cailyn. They wanted some Christmas photos of her and the three of them together. Cailyn is absolutely adorable although she doesn't like to smile in front of the camera. Enjoy the photos :)
